Passion Play Oberammergau 2010

September 2, 2010 · KPAC's Barry Brake has had a busy summer. Not only is he a new father (Congrats! Greta is so cute!), but Brake spent some time in Bavaria, Germany.

While there, Barry interviewed Markus Zwink, music director for the Oberammergau Passion Play, which has been performed in Oberammergau, Bavaria, Germany, by its inhabitants since 1634.

The tradition began as a result of a vow the villagers made to God to spare them from the sweeping devastation of the bubonic plague.

In all the play involves the work of over two thousand actors, singers, instrumentalists and technicians, all residents of the village — all who are residents of this small Bavarian Village.

Barry Brake recently interviewed Oberammergau's music director Markus Zwink to discuss this year's production and the village's long-held tradition.
