September 2, 2010 · The Animal Defense League on Nacogdoches Road is offering discounted adoptions to families wanting to go home with an older dog this weekend. The center is the only no-kill shelter in San Antonio, and executive director Janice Darling says one advantage of adopting from A-D-L is the attention the animals receive there. Darling: "Our kennel staff, and we do have a couple of dog trainers on staff, we try to work with the dogs to get them so they won’t jump, to learn a few very basic commands such as ‘sit’ and ‘stay.’ We try very hard to leash-train the dogs if they have been here for a period of time.”
The special adoption rates run through Sunday and apply to all cats and to dogs over the age of five years. Owners who adopt this weekend only can bring the animals back to the shelter for free vaccinations for the rest of the animal’s life. |
