Symphony of the Hills: For the Young and Young at Heart | March 3, 2011 | 7:30 p.m.
Always an audience delight, this program is designed especially for the youthful. During daylight hours of March 3, the orchestra will perform two children’s concerts for third and fourth grade students in its regional elementary schools. In the evening, an expanded version of the program will be presented for the general audience. Historically, the adults attending the evening concert have enjoyed the music as much as the young people. Featured in the program will be "Symphony No. 1" by Bizet and the Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals. Local pianists Donald Crandall and Kenda DeLaney are the soloists in the Saint-Saens with narrator John Clare!

In collaboration with Gemini Ink, we present a modern song cycle, tracing its inception from poem to presentation. The music, recorded live in our studio, features San Antonio's Bett Butler, Jol Dilley and Rosemary Catacalos; the text is by Asian-American poet Li-Young Lee, from his Book of My Nights. Ron interviews Lee, Butler, Dilley and Catacolos about this fusion of classical, jazz, and spoken word.
